Assessing Conservation Status of Endemic Butterfly Species in trans-Himalayan Regions, Nepal

Wednesday, 2 March 2022 Principal Investigator Bivek Gautam

Crebeta lehmanni Forster, 1980, commonly known as Nepal Wall is a rare endemic Himalayan butterfly that is recorded only from two districts-Manang and Mustang of the trans-Himalayan region, Nepal.  This project was implemented to fulfill the research gap and aware local communities of its conservation. Our finding suggested that its population was declining and facing serious conservation threats like habitat loss due to overgrazing, and unplanned road construction has resulted in the depletion of its food plants. Climate change may have affected them, however, the impact of climate change on their phenology would be an important subject of the next research. It is not listed in the IUCN Red List Category.
